چکیده

The window-layer stack limits the efficiency of both-side-contacted silicon heterojunction solar cells. We discuss here combination several modifications to this improve its optoelectronic performance. These include introduction a nanocrystalline silicon-oxide p-type layer in lieu amorphous layer, replacing indium tin oxide with zirconium-doped for front transparent electrode, capping film and applying postfabrication electrical biasing treatment. influence each these alterations is discussed as well their interactions. Combining all them finally enables fabrication highly electrically well-performing stack, leading screen-printed cell 24.1% efficiency. Paths toward industrialization further improvements are discussed.

Hole selective MoOx contact for silicon solar cells.

Using an ultrathin (∼ 15 nm in thickness) molybdenum oxide (MoOx, x < 3) layer as a transparent hole selective contact to n-type silicon, we demonstrate a room-temperature processed oxide/silicon solar cell with a power conversion efficiency of 14.3%. While MoOx is commonly considered to be a semiconductor with a band gap of 3.3 eV, from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy we show that MoOx may be...

Origin of passivation in hole-selective transition metal oxides for crystalline silicon heterojunction solar cells

Transition metal oxides (TMOs) have recently attracted interest as an alternative to boron/phosphorous doped layers in crystalline silicon heterojunction solar cells. In this work, the interface between n-type c-Si (n-Si) and three thermally evaporated TMOs (MoO3, WO3 and V2O5) was investigated by transmission electron microscopy and secondary ion-mass/x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. For the ...

Heterojunction silicon microwire solar cells.

We report radial heterojunction solar cells of amorphous silicon on crystalline silicon microwires with high surface passivation. While the shortened collection path is exploited to increase the photocurrent, proper choice of the wire radius and the highly passivated surface prevent drastic decrease in the voltage due to high surface-to-volume ratio. The heterojunction is formed by depositing a...

Texturing for Heterojunction Silicon Solar Cells

Heterojunction solar cells have potential for very high device voltages and currents, yet this relies on correct preparation of wafer surfaces prior to a-Si deposition. This paper investigates the preparation of wafer surfaces by NaOH texturing prior to amorphous silicon intrinsic layer deposition. It is found that with a CP etch or low temperature anneal after texturing, and with correct depos...
